I am a gardener. I know what to do and have learned, over the years here in the desert, what works and what doesn't. I had LOTS OF HELP along the way. I have had local gardeners coach me through all kinds of things. The hardest thing here has got to be the layer of rock about 5 ft down. We have to use a big rebar to break it up when we plant trees so the roots and not stilted.
I have also been a member of the garden club but I was kinda disappointed that they did not teach more practical stuff and instead they worked on flower arranging and judging. I needed the practical so much more! I have been picking the brains of gardeners here every chance I get. I am probably annoying but I am learning and so it works. LOL
Outside of conversation and websites books have been a HUGE help.
These two books are the authority for this part of the world. I love George Brookbank!
Here is where we start... I am behind already but January is a slower month. I will also be getting some seeds into starter pots by the beginning of February.
I am pruning rose bushes
starting seeds
beefing up the soil and digging a few new plots this year
I am looking for some seeds but I have lots of seeds from last year that did not get planted because I felt HORRIBLE last year. I was in full recovery mode! ;)
We are back to it this year...
Composting
More raised beds
Organic only
Veggies and flowers will get planted
There will be canning... just sayin'
we have a REAL WORM FARM kit that littlest got for Christmas.... we are using it!
The best part of this is being out... in the sun and in the fresh air. Makes a girl feel better on the roughest FM days. This will be so good for me and fun for littlest as he helps me. There will be lots of pics.
A Few Links I Love...
