Em and a friend from school... fellow flute player in attendance at the annual Flute Fest
My friend and possible sister separated at birth... she is going to be Em's new flute teacher soon!
Love Chi!
Dr. Colgin and Dr. Cohen leading the master class.
Dr. Cohen was Dr. Colgin's college teacher and has been teaching her throughout her career. Seeing them together was fabulous!
Students getting tips on how to do self repair on their flutes. Very cool class!
The Drs. C performing together on the Master Recital
Intermediate flute choir
I got to perform in the advanced flute choir this year. Very fun!
I am very rusty on my sight reading skills but I have learned... from my children mostly, that the only way to get better at sight reading... or anything really... is just to do it every day. This website is in regular daily rotation for me this year.
We had a great time today! One of my goals for this year is to get back to a regular practice schedule with my flute. I plan on a daily sight reading... as mentioned above, a regular reading of melodies and learning songs to perform with Em and in church on a regular basis. I also have an extensive list, thanks to Chi, of You Tube tutorials and world renowned instructors sharing master class and instructional videos.
I will also be adding my recorder and Irish tin whistle and fife to the mix. I love playing with my daughter. I love that we share this!
I need this... I miss the music. I have not sung in church in years for personal reasons. I am not sure that will come soon but the flute will. I might have to find a community choir to be a part of at some point. The last time I did a community performing group was when I was pregnant with Em. We did the Brahms Requiem. I had the time of my life doing that. Someday...
Something really cool that I noticed... I listened to Mozart every night when I was pregnant with oldest and he has loved Mozart his whole life. I also listened to tons of Bela Fleck and Harry Connick, Jr. Guess who his favorite artists are and how all his song writing sounds? LOL... yep... very much like these guys. I sang Brahms my whole pregnancy with Em and all her song writing and preferences are very Brahms-esque. She loves the softer more melodic music. Music in the womb DOES impact children.
Music is very important. I need to make it a higher priority in my daily life. This starts now!!!
